The ragdoll is a pedigree breed of cat that is well known and easily recognized in the cat fancy. The breed was first devloped in the 1960’s. A solid white female cat named Josephine was mated with a seal point male. The kittens were characterized as being “limp” like a ragdoll when being held. This is how the name of the breed “ragdoll Cat” came into existence.
The original owner of the Ragdoll kittens claims that the DNA was genetically modified in her pregnant cat, which caused these kittens to look and behave like they do. The story is pretty wild!
One of the signature trademarks of the Ragdoll cat is its beautiful sky blue eyes. Some Ragdools, however can have different color eyes or variations.
The Ragdoll doesn’t full mature until he or she is 4 – 5 years old.
Ragdoll Personality
The Ragdoll personailty is quiet, easy-going and friendly. They’re very tolerant of children and other pets. Ragdolls also will find its way into your lap to hang out for a while. They are social cats and like to be where the action is. They love to follow people from room to room.

Do Ragdoll Cats Shed
Ragdolls have a medium-length coat of fur. It’s very soft and silky and feels much like that of a rabbit. They do shed, but mainly in the spring and fall. The silky texture of their fur makes it easy to pick up. Just use a damp cloth or mositened rubber glove to remove any Ragdoll hair from your clothes or furniture.
Comb or brush your Ragdoll Cat at least once per week to remove any tangles and remove the loose undercoat.
